About us
A martial-arts tradition, turned toward doing good.
Sheng Chi Foundation exists to put the character-building power of traditional martial arts within reach of the people who stand to gain the most from it.
Who we are
We are a nonprofit built around Shou’ Shu’ — a complete martial-arts system taught in the United States by Da Shifu Al Moore Sr., drawn from Chinese tradition and organized around the movements of seven animals. Unlike arts built for sport or show, Shou’ Shu’ is demanding, practical, and personal. Learning it takes patience and discipline — and returns confidence, composure, and self-respect that carry far beyond the mat.
Those returns are the whole point of the foundation. We saw what serious training does for a young person who has been counted out, for a veteran finding their footing again, for anyone rebuilding their life — and we set out to make sure that cost was never the reason someone couldn’t begin.
Why martial arts
The human body and mind are built to adapt — we are the most versatile animal in nature precisely because we can watch, practice, and change. Martial training turns that capacity into a discipline. You set a standard, you work for it, and you can feel yourself meet it. That earned progress is where real confidence comes from — the kind that can’t be handed to you or taken away.
We possess them; they don’t possess us. Strength is meant to be held in service — never in ego.
That principle — strength held in service — is the standard we hold ourselves to, and the one we pass on to every student we help.
