What this screener is — and isn’t
A screener is a starting point, not a diagnosis. If your child might need formal accommodations (an IEP or 504 plan), or you suspect a vision, hearing, or medical cause, pursue a professional evaluation too — that’s the only route to those supports. What the screener gives you is a place to begin today, in language that builds your child up instead of boxing them in. We didn’t build a diagnosis. We built the step before one — so you’re free to start helping your child now, without first deciding what to call them.

How common dyslexia is
Estimates commonly range from 5–20% of people depending on how dyslexia is defined. However you count it, you and your child are in good company.
The ADHD connection
A substantial share of children and teens with dyslexia also experience attention difficulties. If focus and reading both feel hard at your house, that overlap is common — and the screener helps you see how attention patterns fit the bigger picture.
Reading tutoring runs about $60–$150/hour and often disappoints — because it drills the symptoms (reading skills) while the cause (the processing systems underneath) goes unaddressed. The screener points you at those systems first, so your effort lands where it counts. And apply for every accommodation your child is entitled to along the way — building processing systems and using formal supports are not either/or.
Choose all that apply — there are no wrong answers
This isn’t a test your child could fail. It’s a way to finally understand how they learn, so you’re able to help them the right way. Free, private, and nothing for your child to be nervous about.

Common questions
Dyslexia, answered
What is dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a difference in how the brain processes written language. Reading leans on several systems at once — phonological processing, visual processing, memory, and processing speed — which is why two children called “dyslexic” often struggle in different ways. It has nothing to do with intelligence, and reading skills develop with the right, targeted practice.
What are the signs of dyslexia in children?
Common signs: slow or effortful reading, trouble sounding out new words, guessing from the first letter, losing their place on the line, shaky spelling, avoiding reading, and reading that tires them out fast. The screener walks through the everyday signs and shows which patterns match your child.
Is this screener a diagnosis?
No. A screener is a starting point, not a diagnosis. If your child might need formal accommodations (an IEP or 504 plan), or you suspect a vision, hearing, or medical cause, pursue a professional evaluation too — that’s the only route to those supports. What the screener gives you is a clear place to begin today.
Is the screener really free, and how long is it?
Completely free and private, and about five minutes. You answer a few structured questions and get your results by email in minutes, in plain language. Nothing to schedule, nothing for your child to prepare.
What do the results tell me?
Which reading patterns match your child and the processing skills underneath them — plus concrete first steps to start today. From there, the full assessment builds a personalized Roadmap you keep, free with the 7-day trial.
Can dyslexia be improved?
Yes. Reading is a set of skills the brain builds, and the brain stays changeable throughout life (neuroplasticity). With practice aimed at the right underlying systems, reading gets easier — the screener points you at where to start.
Worried about your own reading?
Adults are welcome too. The same signs apply, and it’s never too late — the brain keeps its ability to build reading skills at any age. Take the screener with yourself in mind.
